Wilderness therapy has been shown to be a highly effective treatment for adolescents using drugs and alcohol, according to an independent study from the University of Idaho's Wilderness Research Center. Their study of outdoor behavioral healthcare showed that even at a one-year follow-up, adolescents who had participated in wilderness therapy programs continued to improve. Programs that participated in the study include Aspen Achievement Academy in Loa, Utah, which specializes in dealing with adolescents who have substance abuse problems.
