Inhalants never interested me when I was a kid. I remember mimeograph paper was still wet it had a smell to it but that only lasted a few minutes. Not sure I ever got a high from it, but my friends said they did.
I think it is difficult for some parents to think about their children doing thing to get high that they never even considered.
